Event : The 7th South Asian Bands Festival 2013
Date: November 29th to December 01st 2013.
Time: 6.00 pm onwards
Venue: Purana Qilla, New Delhi (Near Delhi Zoo)

The South Asian Bands Festival 2013 is part of SAARC’s regional integration to help achieve SAARC’s objectives. The South Asian Bands Festival is held in Delhi, at Purana Qilla, every year on the onset of winters. This time it was the association’s seventh edition of the fest. The 7th South Asian Bands Festival 2013, this time, comprised fourteen popular rock bands from across nine nations that rocked the crowd in a 3 day long festival. Listed below are the bands that participated and performed day wise at the event.

 Day 1, November 29, 2013

* Barefaced Liar (New Delhi)
* LRB (Bangladesh)
* ZnG (Bhutan)
* Circus (New Delhi)
* Biuret (Korea)

Day 1 started with balloons aplenty, and before they could disappear into the vast blackness up above, Barefaced Liar from Delhi jumped right in grabbing every dazed soul's attention.  After playing some of their better known tracks, like the now famous To The Line, they called violinist Darshan Singh Sur to belt out some unconventional numbers.  The Liar was followed by popular Bangladeshi band LRB, followed by Bhutanese band ZnG, then Circus an alternate rock band from Dehi and the last band for the night was ‘Biuret’ a Korean rock band which was a complete surprise package and entertainer par excellence.

 Day 2, November 30, 2013

* Stigmata (Sri Lanka)
* Eman’s Conspiracy (Maldives)
* Papon And The East Indian Company (Mumbai)
* Strings (Pakistan)

Day 2 had four popular rock bands lined up, first up was ‘Stigmata’ from Sri Lanka styled in appearance and sound of progressive thrash & Death Metal with Hard Rock influences. ‘Eman’s Conspiracy’ from Maldives too sounded similar like ‘Stigmata’, both the bands had style and music and they sounded good and tight. An anchor was present on stage and he kept interacting with the crowd to let them know who’s up next and to check their pulse of likes and dislikes, on one interaction with the crowd, the anchor confirmed that ‘Stings’ from Pakistan were lined up for the night to which a crowd of over 5,000 cheered and hooted as a sign of warm welcome and love. The anchor further teased the rocking crowd before they witnessed ‘Strings’, “next up is Papon And The East Indian Company” the crowd at the name of ‘Papon’ went wild, “how many Papon fans in the house tonight?” asked the anchor, a quick loud hoot came in response with every single hand fluttering high in the air to acknowledge the inquiry.

Papon consistently rocked the stage with Assamese numbers like ‘Pak pak’, ‘Tokari’ etc and bollywood numbers like ‘Kyon’, ‘Banao Banao’ etc. Papon & his band received an incredible crowd response. ‘Strings’ too did not lose out any opportunity to uplift the moods of the already enthralled crowd. ‘Strings’ with their pop rock numbers perfectly ended the second day of the event.

Day 3, December 1, 2013

* What’s In The Name (Mumbai)
* Pardis (Afghanistan)
* Susmit Sen Chronicles (New Delhi)
* Albatross (Nepal)
* The Raghu Dixit Project (Bengaluru)

Due to some reason, Day 3, I could not witness the event, however, I am entirely sure that Day 3 must had been a kick ass gig. From ‘What’s In The Name’ (winners of many inter-college and national level band competitions) to ‘Susmit Sen Chronicles’(founder member and lead guitarist of Indian Ocean fame) to ‘The Raghu Dixit Project’ (coke studio fame) must have ripped the Delhi crowd apart.

I will be more than happy to put an article if somebody could help me with the review of Day 3 schedule, for the love of music.

On the other hand NH7 weekender must have faced a competition with other Gigs and festivals that took place around Delhi-NCR and were for FREE. Apart from the SAARC fest, there was another FREE entry gig on Sun Dec 01st ’13 near India Gate lawn, event name “Voice of vote concert 2013” with line up bands like - Euphoria, Parikrama, Mrigya and other 17 rock bands. Music aficionados had a better deal attending FREE gigs against NH 7. I was one of them :-). Watch out NH 7!!

North East Festival 2013 in New Delhi review

The much awaited two day carnival “North East Festival 2013” finally showcased the regions authentic food, musical talents, ethnic dances, hand-looms, handicrafts etc., with flying colors.

Mr S.K Mahanta (Organizer-in-chief), the man behind the entire show!

The venue selected to materialize the event was decent in location and size, the ambiance of the event was lively, colorful, well organized and decorated enough to stir up the minds of the people to get them straight into the outdoor festivity mood. Chairs and dining tables were set up near the food stalls, water dispensers and disposable glasses were easily available around, performance stage was wonderfully built with proper lightning and sound system, good police security was deployed, ambulance and fire brigade stood by 24/7 for safety reasons. Everything was beautifully organized and well planned.

Approximately 3000 to 4000 people of mixed gentry attended the event; people of all age groups from students to working professionals to family groups to parents with kids to typical aunts and uncles attended the festival. The crowd largely constituted of North east people and North Indians with a little addition from other parts of India and abroad.

Five regional food stalls were put up; 2 from Nagaland (Nagaland Kitchen & Dzukou – the tribal kitchen), 1 from Sikkim, 1 from Assam (Khorika), 1 from Manipur (Rosang) and 1 from Tripura. All the food stalls showcased their sumptuous ethnic cuisines and delicacies of its own region. Arunachal, Meghalaya and Mizo food stalls were missing however, people did not feel its absence as some of the stalls even served their dishes and cuisines.

People were mostly and literally seen hogging pork meat, be it in the form of pork ribs, pork barbeque, pork momo, pork thali or pork khorika…. At one point, during peak dinner time, it seemed as if some kind of a pork eating festival was going on rather than North East Festival :-), which ever dining table you lay your eyes upon, it had plates of pork meat. People ate and ate so much at the event that almost all the food stalls were dried up before long and had to cook more than 3-4 times a day to relish the hunger of the customers who had attended the fest and totally had an appetite for North East food.

North Indians too, to be specific, did not take a back seat when it came to eating pork meat and trying out variants of North East cuisines. In one instance, a Sardarji and his family, devoid of any qualms, were seen trying out Atul Lahkar’s famous pork Khorika and Dzukou’s famous pork ribs :-).
In the evening, attendees were either seen basking in the glory of the food at the bistro or at the cultural evenings which showcased North East’s fashion show and musical talents. Cheers, claps and hoots continuously echoed in the open air when renowned North East personalities like Mary Kom, Adil Hussain, Zubin Garg etc. walked the ramp. Professional singers and noted musicians from the North East region like Guru Rewben Mashangva, Mami Varte, Zubin garg, Mami Varte, Alobo Naga, Lou Majaw etc further elevated the crowd to get into the trance of rock n’ roll.

The event undeniably was well organized and perfectly executed to a wonderful success and the man behind this success and iconic event is none other than Mr. S.K Mahanta who with a concept, vision and entrepreneurship have brought ‘ North East Festival 2013a grand success at the Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts ground (IGNCA) Janpath, New Delhi on Fri, Nov 08th and Sat. 09th  2013. These two days will ever be remembered in the history of North East conglomeration in New Delhi for bringing awareness, promoting tourism, brotherhood, peace and unity. Cheers!

What could have been better?
To attract more people.
Arrangement of more chairs and dining tables.
No regional language/dialect on performance stage in the form of speech.
Lastly, performance of Papon & Soulmate.

ALOBO NAGA AND THE BAND at the MTV EMA Frankfurt 2012, BEST WORLDWIDE ACT title and the Story so far.

Alobo Naga and the Band is representing India at the MTV EMA awards under the 'BEST WORLDWIDE ACT', please vote the band as your voting will count to bring the laurel home.

Last month, mid September ’12, ALOBO NAGA & THE BAND was one among the five Indian singles/bands to be nominated for the MTV Europe Music Awards to be held in Frankfurt in November. The result of this nomination was declared on Oct 14th ’12. Please find below the list of the bands with their song/music video each and the WINNER in the category.

Nominees for BEST INDIAN ACT/WORLDWIDE ACT:
1) Bandish Project - Ft, Monica Dogra
2) Induscreed - Fireflies
3) Alobo Naga and the band – Painted dreams
4) Menwhopause - Easy
5) Oliver Sean - So good final movie

WINNER:  ALOBO NAGA & THE BAND – PAINTED DREAMS

ALOBO NAGA & THE BAND after winning the BEST INDIAN ACT category is NOMINATED to the second level which is for the “BEST WORLD WIDE ACT AFRICA-INDIA-MIDDLE EAST”, that means three regions will vie for the title, please find below the three bands/artists with their song/music video each in the category.

Nominees for BEST WORLDWIDE ACT ‘AFRICA-INDIA-MIDDLE EAST’:
1) Best African Act: D'Banj for “OLIVER TWIST”
2) Best India Act: Alobo Naga & the Band for “PAINTED DREAMS”
3) Best Middle East Act: Ahmed Soultan “MY JAILER”

WINNER: PENDING (result to be declared on Tuesday, October 30th 2012)

ALOBO NAGA & THE BAND and its two contenders, D'Banj and Ahmed Soultan, the former is a Nigerian singer/ songwriter who is a pioneer in bringing Afrobeat into the 21st century, the latter, reveals himself as the precursor of a new style he likes to call Afrobian Soul for Afro-Arabian. Both are good at what they have been able to deliver at the MTV EMA, and thus, they are contending alongside Alobo Naga & the Band for the title. I, personally, feel Alobo Naga & the Band has an edge over D'Banj and Ahmed Soultan, typically from the music-lyrics-video perspective, Alobo Naga & the Band’s “PAINTED DREAMS” is more chunkier, revived, professional, lyrically strong and the video has a message attached to it; while on the other hand D'Banj’s  “OLIVER TWIST” is absolutely a booty shake Afrobeat number, just good enough to make you dance and groove …. Ahmed Soultan’s “MY JAILER” is softer, has good music but regional singing in between. Both the single artists are good, however,  Alobo Naga & the Band’s “PAINTED DREAMS” is potentially more creative and has a strong feel to it…. This is where the band might have an upper hand in winning the second level…. My gut feeling says that they will positively win the second level as well.

The first ever Indian band to be nominated at the MTV EMA 2011 under ‘Best worldwide act Africa/India/Middle East’ category was was SCRIBE (hardcore/metal band) for their music “Dum hai toh aage aah” however they (India) lost to Abdelfattah Grini (Africa) in the second level. To change the history in India, I personally would like to call on every Indian citizen, be it from the North East India, North India or South India and beyond to VOTE FOR ALOBO NAGA AND THE BAND >> Click on this link <<, these guys deserve to win AND you can make it happen; we can make it happen, together, by putting in our little contribution and effort in voting online for one of the finest exponents of Music from Dimapur, Nagaland.

Post BEST WORLDWIDE ACT ‘AFRICA-INDIA-MIDDLE EAST’ MTV EMA 2012 result; there will be a third level (FINAL) contest for ‘BEST WORLD WIDE ACT’ title and in totality there would be 5 bands/artists from the regions listed below who’d vie for the INTERNATIONAL TITLE.

MTV EMA Frankfurt 2012: Nominees for BEST WORLD WIDE ACT:
1) Winner of Africa/India/Middle East Zone (Pending)
2) Winner of Asia Pacific Zone (Pending)
3) Winner of Europe Zone (Pending)
4) Winner of Latin America Zone (Pending)
5) Winner of North America Zone (Pending)

The third level (Final) competition will be a little tougher, however, with a little support, word-of-mouth reference, sincere prayers and multiple voting’s, we can have this talented band come out with flying colours. Blessings and support is what all ALOBO NAGA AND THE BAND needs this hour. Please continue and vote ALOBO NAGA AND THE BAND to make NAGALAND proud, INDIA proud. God bles!

MEGADETH Concert in Delhi-Noida, a post concert SYNOPSIS.

Pioneers of Thrash metal, MEGADETH, signing off the show during their last song on "Holy Wars".  (Photography: Hasan Imtiaz Ahamed)
 MEGADETH set the stage ablaze at the Black rock arena, Ground-D, Buddh International Circuit, Greater Noida on Sunday, Oct 14th '12 at 8.30 pm in the NH7 Bacardi weekender Festival. The MEGADETH concert in Delhi-Noida was a massive success and must had attracted approx. more than 5,000 metal heads from Delhi-NCR region and beyond. The show was hosted by BACARDI in their 2 day long music festival called “Bacardi NH7 Weekender Music Festival” where music lovers came to enjoy multi open air shows, good music, unlimited booze and fun etc… There were several good Indian bands lined up on both the days; however the big day was on the second, cause pioneers of thrash metal ‘MEGADETH’ was playing LIVE for the first time in Delhi-Noida, though it was their second visit to India, the first visit being at Bangalore in 2008.

No bands officially opened up for MEGADETH, however, there were a lot of bands lined up that day before MEGADETH took the stage, they were - BHAYANAK MAUT, DELHI METAL PROJECT, SCRIBE, SOLSTICE COIL, UNDYING INC, I think me and my friends reached the venue when DELHI METAL PROJECT were performing followed by BHAYANAK MAUT and thereafter the stage was unlit and desolated for about 1 hour or so until MEGADETH showed up close to their scheduled time by 8.30 pm IST and then the Gods of metal continuously delivered a dynamic power packed performance until around 10.45 pm. The four-piece ensemble thrash band stormed the venue for more than 2 hours giving their metal fans a show to remember for their lifetime. MEGADETH mostly covered all the songs from their album ‘Countdown to extinction’ and a couple of other songs from ‘Cryptic writings’, ‘Youthanasia’, ‘Peace sells…. But who’s buying?’, ‘Rust in peace’, and ‘Th1rte3n’.

MEGADETH opened up with their classical rendition "Trust" with Shawn Drover's on drums starting the intro which was followed by Chris Broderick's kick ass guitaring and David Ellefson's thundering bass... when the main riff kicked in Dave Mustaine appeared on stage, the crowd on seeing MEGADETH (all the four) in flesh and blood, especially Dave Mustaine, drove thousands of metal heads go bonkers and super excited… When Dave Mustaine sang the first line ‘Lost in a dream Nothing's what it seems….', his very first snarl sent goose bumps and wild europhia to the crowd who all went animalistically wild and started hooting, howling, screaming, jumping and raising both their fists high up in the air to make the signs \m/ \m/ in clusters...... it was an incredible sight to see thousands of fists swaying together to the first song, next up, was another classic "Hangar 18", I have recorded this video in my cell and it has the entire crowd powerfully chanting rhythmically to these three syllables "ME-GA-DETH, ME-GA-DETH…..", throughout the song…. thrilled and intensified by the high volt power pack opening, the crowd already started head-banging…

The next song progressed to "She-wolf" another classic; a powerful riff by Dave Mustaine in the opening of this song further elevated the metal hormones of the crowd and let them into the wilderness of ecstasy,.when "she-wolf" ended, Dave Mustaine for the first time, in a snarling way, interacted with the crowd, he said "Hello Delhi, Are you feeling good?" the crowd responded "Yeah" excitedly, Dave further snarled "I hope you're having a good time!" the crowd responded "YEAHHHH..... (more wildly and loudly this time)", Dave Mustaine then said "Alright (snarling), I now want you all to sing this song with me" and started the popular number "A tout le monde", the moment he started singing the opening line '‘Don't remember where I was, I realized life was a game…’ Dave Mustaine was followed by thousands of fans lyrically singing together word-to-word with him, it was indeed a kick-ass feeling to listen to the echoes of thousands of fans singing rhythmically together and in sync with the axe man.... "A tout le monde" was followed with ‘Whose life’ and ‘Public enemy no.1’ from their new album "Th1rte3n".....

When their 5th song ended, the stage was pitch black, they took a quick 1 minute break and when the lights came back, Dave Mustaine interacted with the crowd with his body language appeal and some gestures and moving from one side of the stage to the other and throwing flying kisses and waving to the crowd almost for a minute, while Dave Mustaine amused and enthralled the crowd, the crowd on the other hand chanted (as though under a spell) these three syllables "WE-LOVE-YOU, WE-LOVE-YOU....." the whole ground echoed with this chant….. and then a few seconds later, Dave Mustaine grabs the Microphone and snarls "Good eveninggg... oh! it feels so good to be back here…(pause)... I have a question for you? How many of you are here, the last time we played?? ....... Crowd has a fading response, Dave Mustaine assumes "This means that this is your first time right?” The crowd responds “YEAHHH….”, Dave Mustaine exclaims “bloody fucking cool!......you know most people won’t make it all the way over here because they feel it’s not worth and don’t care, but I do, we do….... (pause, crowd roaring…)… we’re celebrating our 20th anniversary of our platinum album “Countdown to extinction”, we’ll be going around the globe and playing that record....(couldn't catch this part due to the crowd's wild cheer, excuse me!)....; the next song we are playing is from "Countdown to extinction", and starts with ‘Skin o’ my teeth’, followed by ‘Architecture of aggression’, “Foreclosure of a dream”,“Sweating bullets”, “This was my life”, after which Dave Mustaine did some talking, he addressed the crowd “I will tell you the difference between the audience there in America and the Audience here in India. There, the people are spoiled but here I know how much efforts, pain and sacrifice you guys have made to come this far and watch this concert... Respect for you fans… thank you for coming…” and said "our next song is “Countdown to extinction and started hitting the notes to which the crowd amplified the sound by singing along with Dave Mustaine, after which followed by “High speed dirt”, followed by “Psychotron”, “Captive honour” and “Ashes in your Mouth”.

After “Ashes in your Mouth”, Shawn started hitting the bass drums and Dave Ellefson played the bass line to “Peace Sells” to which the crowd roared and screamed on the chorus part, while the band mascot “Vic Rattlehead” made his first public appearance on stage. The last song of the mega concert was “Holy Wars” for which the crowd had been literally crying wildly in three rhythmic syllables “HO-LY-WARS, HO-LY-WARS….”,  It was during this song, Dave Mustaine introduced his band members to the crowd, “the man on to my right is Chris Broderick, guitar…., on to my left, bass guitar, is David Ellefson and behind me on Drums is Shawn Drover” and when the song ended, MEGADETH signed off by saying “Thank you very much! You’ve been great, we’ve been MEGADETH”, however the music did not stop at the backdrop it was seamlessly looped into MP3 format while all the metal heads exhausted but still inundated and mesmerized with MEGADETH’s power pack performance, staggered merrily out of the gate to cherish the moment ever.

The band performed around 19 songs and had given their best and it was indeed on helluva show. Dave Mustaine was dressed up in black shirt, dark blue denims, black wrist bands, with clean shaven face, long blonde curly hair complimenting his white skin and persona..... The man looked fucking handsome and younger than ever, while David Ellefson, Chris Broderick and Shawn too looked good and remarkably performed their best. The size of the ground was huge; just the right size for more than 5,000 metal fans to head-bang and jump freely, a giant LED screen was displayed on the stage above, for all the metal fans, standing at the back to get a glimpse into Megadeth’s close-up. Megadeth has always been a cut above the metal crowd and they are technically a very tight band…. . Being one of the four giants in pioneering thrash metal (other three being – Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax). They don’t compromise riffs and melodies over speed. Everything was great that night except for the venue-commuting problem and the dusty environment while entering the main gates and inside. I would love to witness MEGADETH again, if ever, it comes in and around Delhi…. It was one CRAZY wild night \m/.

Naga Fest 2012 in Delhi, 4 people who missed it!

Naga Fest promotional poster/ banner
Naga Fest 2012 in New Delhi was a free show which was held at Talkatora indoor stadium on Wednesday, Sept 19th. It was a night of celebration with amazing concerts, good food, talent displays, awesome speakers, cultural dance, prayer, worship and most importantly a rendezvous to strengthen the spirit of oneness, peace and brotherhood amongst the Naga’s. The objective of the event was not only “A CALL” to all the Naga’s and friends to come out and enjoy and be a part of the event and be blessed with good food and good music… you know.. but it was much beyond that, it was about unity, peace, bonding, presence, warmth, love, awareness and so on. By God’s will and prayer, as many as 3,000 people (approximately) showed up for the event leaving aside their daily chores and work at office and I was one of them. The Fest was a big success!

The fest was indeed a memorable one with some of the unique features it had facilated –  (1) Various bands, artists, singers and musicians of national and international repute performing under one roof. (2) Free bus services from North & South Delhi (for those attending the fest)  (3) Live streaming in the internet (for those who could not make it to the event) (4) More than 20 stalls displaying different talents in food, painting, art, shawls and other merchandises on sale. (5) A hugege indoor stadium with a sitting capacity more than 6,000 people (6) Wonderful ambience with bamboo plantations in the premises complimenting the fest. (7) Maintaining a ‘no smoking & no booze’ environment.

Please correct me if I am wrong, I read somewhere that the fest was organised by the USA-based Indigenous Foundation in association with the Naga Indigenous people. Nokho Nyekha and Cosmos Zimik being the key people to organize the “Naga Fest 2012” event ever in Delhi. The people behind the success of the ‘Naga Fest 2012’ include the organising committee, all the musicians, singers, performers, speakers, food vendors etc and most importantly the attendees, and last but not the least, all the people who had contributed their bit in some way or the other to make it a big hit despite of some shortfalls. All of them have significantly contributed to the success of the much awaited event that took place at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. More of such events should be organised in the capital city to showcase Naga culture, Naga food, it’s potentiality in music etc and bring about the awreness of the community in the cross-sections of the society; besides, such events provide an opportunity to all the Naga’s living in Delhi to come out and have fun and to feel a lil bit at home types, pray together and spread the message of oneness, brotherhood, love and peace to the entire world. J

For those who missed the event: Let’s take an insight into the programmes that unfolded during the event…. the show was scheduled for 4.30 pm howerver it kick started at around 6.00 pm in the evening, the venue was big; as big as it could accommodate 5000 -6000 people approx, the ambience inside the stadium was pretty warm and the feeling of coming to the concert was great except for the small plastic slippery chairs where people easily slid down when they did not literally support their seating position with their feet…lol.. people were seen murmuring about this lil inconvenience. Anyway after the sound check and everything was over, the show was started with a dynamic speech and a humble prayer to the God by Cosmo Zimik and the crowd together. The hosts/anchors for the event were introduced – Azalika and Paul, they took the crowd through the entire show that night.

First band up on stage was REDOLENT from Tamenlong, Manipur, formed in July 2003, they are of the Rock genre. A very tight band whom I personally know about, the moment they opened up, they sounded like rockstars and the kind of music that Delhi always loved; fast, heavy and punchy. They played only two songs or rather they were directed to play only two songs, to my utter surprise, all the other bands had played more than 5 songs each, why was this partiallity then? Despite the fact that they sang two songs, they did put up a great show, the first song was a cover ‘Bullets’ of CREED and the last song was ‘From the shadows’, one of their unreleased originals. Redolent later complained about the poor sound system. They also performed at the Chaurang 2012 concert at Sur Tal stadium in Delhi on Friday 19th which I heard was really an amazing show, at least not to sing 2 songs… J

REDOLENT in action, a band all the way from Tamenlong, Manipur

Next up was a talented artist showcasing his beat-boxing skills, he really did an amazing job, only God knows from where he could produce 3-4 sounds at one go… he elevated the crowd with his amazing skills, this was followed by a band called “TOWERING FAITH” which is a Gospel/Metal band formed with a vision to reach out to the nations through music. Toweing Faith, in the truest sense lifted the audience, it enthralled the crowd with the kind of mucic they played, their singing style and performance. The vocalist of the band was able to connect with the audience and had the charm to invoke the audience to sing into his tune along, when he sang ‘hey-o’ and requested the audience to repeat after him (which I believe was a teaser), Good lord! The entire stadium was roaring with the ‘hey-o’ tune (for a fraction of moment, I thought that the stadium would fall down..lol) I am not too sure about the songs they sang but I too enjoyed with the rest of the crowd.

Towering Faith
I believe, it was the convenor of the event, Nokho, who delivered a beautiful speech after Towering faith’s superb performance which was then followed by a Naga Maring tribal war dance from Manipur which created a lot of hype and attracted the photographers, camera-mens and  foreigners swirling around to capture the ethinic dance of the Naga Maring tribe.

The Naga Maring tribe war dance was performed on the ground (off-stage)
The next artist to perform on stage was none other than Guru Rewben Mashangva and his 7 year old son – Saka, Rewben Mashangva is a folk musician and singer from Manipur and is considered to be the father of the Naga Folk Blues and is popular for reviving musical tradition of the Tangkhul community. It would not be fair on my part to mention that he is my personal favourite and one of my primary reasons to attend this Fest. Anyway, when the hosts called on Guru Rewben Mashangva and Saka to take the stage, the fans at the top of their voice cheered him and gave him a great welcome even before he started to sing a song, guess what must have happened after singing a song, no wonder that is why he is the King of Naga Folk blues.
Rewben Mashangva and his 7 year old son, Saka.
Guru Rewben Mashangva and Saka opened up with their original song “No more killings”, “Far away”,“Changkhom phillava” was a great super duper hit, while Rewben was strumming to the folk tune and his son singing and using the folk horn instrument, his fans were enthralled and repetitively kept applauding and cheering… in the midst of the show, Rewben was seen struggling with the poor sound system, he repeatedly kept asking the sound engineer either by action or voice to increase the sound in the monitors but to no avail, I think the sound engineer was not a pro, however, his fan’s ignored all these shortfalls as his presence itself on the stage was a huge deal. The co-ordination of the father and the son was to be seen, they make a great team together, the last song they winded up was with their hit number “Hop-pi-pi”.

Purple Fusion was up next, PF is a band which experiments folk music with funk/ Jazz/ Blues/ Reggae. The band did put up some surprises for the event, they not only performed together with Guru Rewben but also with Rahul Ram (Vocalist/Bassist of Indian Ocean)… the crowd wowed as he took on stage and displayed a charismatic performance. I am not sure about the songs they sang except for one popular number “Bandeh” which was sung by Rahul Ram and PF together in a modified way. It sounded pretty cool.

Purple Fusion did create some awesome fusion.
Like Guru Rewben, Rahul Ram and Mhathung (Bassist of PF) too were facing problems with the poor sound system, yet they pulled up the show to their fan’s satisfaction. Later, Mhathung on FB quoted that “In my 14/15 years as a musician I have never played in a Hi Tech sound system producing the most hopeless sound with the most arrogant sound engineer I have ever come across. Whoever hired that guy don’t make the same mistake ever again”, Rahul Ram also complained that “Also, Talkatora Stadium is a terrible venue for amplified sound. It's all reverb and boomy and slapback and standing waves....In 23 years of playing in Delhi I played there only once (1995 or so) before yesterday, and have hated it…. had hoped they would have improved it for the commonwealth games, but…”. I hope this feedback would be valued by the Organizing Committee for future events and shows!

There was another speech by now which was followed by Alobo Naga & the band, they were the second last performers before the event was over and done with. Alobo Naga & the band is truly an international band, a commercial band, representing Nagaland or India be it in the VH1 or MTV level, their performance at the Naga Fest was not only music but beyond music, that’s where they were a lil unique and stole the show, Alobo that night was highly turbo energised not only with his wonderful singing but also with the messages and the talking which were communicated and expressed to the audience so wonderfully that it touched all the hearts of the Naga’s, he shared the idea of keeping is last name as “Naga”.… He highlighted that being a Naga was a blessing as well as a misblessing cause there are many tribes in the Naga community and this sometimes created a conflict and discrimination amongst the Nagas, so he wanted to put an end to these issues and be known by only one identity as “Naga” in the state as well as outside the state, he pioneered this idea and that’s why he still stands as ALOBO NAGA… isn’t it an amazing message!

Alobo Naga & the band
In between his songs he really did a lot of talking about God, worship, brotherhood, unity etc, keeping in mind it was a two way conversation with the audience. All the songs they sang that night were their own originals and every song carried a specific message which was finely expressed by Alobo while doing the talking… the first song the band played was “youth” dedicating it to the people of Assam who were suffering from the communal riots; the second song was “The End” this song talked about the end of the world; followed by “Kumsujulo” a song that invites the Nagas to come & Live as one; then “Let her Live” a song on Anti Abortion & female infanticide; followed by “Hilikus” which was purely for fun and groovin’ purposes, while singing this song Aloba literally danced like Michael Jackson…lol…the sound of the DJ and mixing of everything was stupendously fantastic….. they ripped the stadium with their music and performance, the last song they winded up before collaborating with Mark Henderson (USA) was their popular song played in VH1…. Yes you’re right “Painted Dreams” awesome music with fantastic vocals… you guys really deserve to win the MTV Europe Music Awards, 2012, yes, their hit video single 'Painted Dreams' has been nominated for the same to be held in Frankfurt, Germany. All they need is our votes & blessings to bring the laurel home... Please vote for them as every single vote counts…. Click here, to take you to the link, to vote:

In the end, Mark Henderson from USA joined with Alobo Naga & the band to put up a great gospel concert, to bless every one and stuff….by this time it was around 9.00 pm and I was starving to death, so my friend and I had to run outside to catch our grub, my sincere apologies for missing on to the last part of the event. Overall the event was a huge success despite of some short falls. God bless!
