Great Society to Soulmate - A brief review

The Great Society (GS) is a very old rock band from shillong, formed in early 80's with Lou Majaw (vocals/rhythm guitar), Arjun Sen (vocals/guitar) and Bert Cooper (drums) as the founding members. Rudy Wallang joined the band as a bass player shortly. Soon after, Sam Shullai replaced Bert on drums. When Arjun decided to head out to Delhi, Rudy took up playing guitar and Ferdy Dkhar joined in as the bass player. Despite a series of impressive lineup changes in the twelve years of it's existence, Keith Wallang on drums, late Babit Jyrwa on drums and bass, Danny Shullai on bass and Bob Lyngdoh on harp, The Great Society was essentially Lou, Arjun, Rudy, Sam and Ferdy without whose contribution, it wouldn't have had been what GS is today...... I respect all the members & ex-members of GS.

The Great Society toured the country extensively, earning cult status as one of the most dynamic livewire acts in the country. The Great Society disbanded in 1992. When The Great Society disbanded, Lou Majaw (singer/songwriter) the main force behind the band, took some time out before getting 'Great Society' together again with its new members. All the while, Lou had been writing new songs and solo albums but of late has not yet put up with a show or maybe I'm unaware of it.

Rudy Wallang, leaving GS in 1993, formed a a band named "MOJO" with Sam Shullai, Ferdy Dkhar, Keith Wallang & Bob for straight 9 years until Rudy went on to form 'SOULMATE' with Tipriti "Tips" Kharbangar , Sam & Ferdy.

Arjun Sen has been in Delhi since 1986, first began playing at the hotel circuit and is now one of the most respected and in-demand music composers in India, while Keith Wallang is a CEO with Springboard Surprises, Guwahati.

Even though GS split had split up a long time ago with its real & founding members, all ex members have been keeping in touch with each other in regard to their fantastic music creation once. At this point in time, while each of them has grown musically, it appears the urge to re-create their music has become even stronger......

Rudy Wallang went on with his passion for music & formed 'SOULMATE' with Tipriti "Tips" Kharbangar , currently they are the best blues band in the country with many titles & awards to their fame.... Soulmate's perform regularly at 'HAZE' & 'JAZZ BAR' in New Delhi. Be sure not to miss their fantastic music this time.

Soulmates have two albums to their plumage "Shillong" and "moving on" both have fantastic music.

SOULMATE's are :

TIPRITI “TIPS’ KHARBANGAR (Vocals, Guitar)
RUDY WALLANG (Guitar, Vocals)
SAM SHULLAI (Drums)
FERDY DKHAR (Bass Guitar)

( Yet to cover on GS......... so long, Adieus!)
